About Us

Many Stages, One Vision

The Theatre Alliance of Buffalo (TAB) is a consortium of Western New York professional theatre companies dedicated to promoting the welfare of its member organizations and appreciation of the art of theatre.

Goals of the organization:

  • Strengthen and enhance marketing efforts.
  • Develop and invigorate communication and coordination among its members.
  • Provide opportunities to stabilize and strengthen TAB members as a cultural and regional asset.

 See our Membership Benefits page!

Founded September 2004, in an unprecedented and groundbreaking partnership, sixteen professional producing theatres from Western New York came together to create (originally named) The Buffalo Theatre Alliance (TBTA).
The Theatre Alliance of Buffalo is a collection of WNY’s finest theatre groups working together as one to provide market awareness and support for the regions theatrical productions.
Since its inception, the Theatre Alliance of Buffalo (TAB) has now grown to over 20 member theatre groups governed by by-laws and elected officials. Regular monthly meetings and committee meetings are held and a shared patron database of over 75,000 contacts has been created, allowing for a multitude of cross marketing initiatives to take place.

In May 2011, GENERAL AUDITIONS for (non-student) professional actors was added to the program attracting talent from the Ontario, Syracuse and Rochester areas. The introduction of this new annual theatre event invigorated not only the talent pool in Western New York, but the TAB membership as well, garnering much recognition and praise within the theatre community.

Information on TAB’s initiatives are disseminated through press release distribution, social networking, shared playbill page, season flyers, and the TAB website. TAB’s model has encouraged other collaborative efforts in the region to explore joint initiatives. The Greater Buffalo Cultural Alliance (GBCA) is one such example of TAB’s seminal influence. Key TAB members were influential in the formation of GBCA and are currently active on the Leadership in the Steering Committees of GBCA.

Within its first two years, TAB’s dedicated website became the # 1 online referral hub and clearing house for Buffalo Theatre. The measuring of TAB’s website is supported by Google analytics and through research of other member’s website analytics.
In 2015, TAB will be embarking on their second Strategic Plan to steer the organization in future years.

Theatre Alliance of Buffalo members provide a uniquely diverse partnership providing individual choices of entertainment, education, shared human experiences and quality of life components for families with children, individual life styles, and all ethnicities that reside or visit WNY. The tangible results include: supplying jobs for people raising families and making homes in our community; purchasing goods and services and providing programs that contribute in immeasurable ways to the social health of WNY residents; creating important quality of life impacts associated with the business of theatre including:

  • Facilitating the ability to recruit professionals to area;
  • Contributing assets to our growing knowledge-based economy;
  • Providing entertainment; bringing national and international recognition; and
  • Enriching educational programs in local schools, universities/colleges and continuing education programs.
