The time is the 1950’s. Laura, a sensitive Midwestern girl, arrives in New York  to escape the heartache of a failed romance with her true love Beth (who marries steadfast Charlie even though her heart belongs to Laura). In NY, Laura befriends Jack, an older jaded gay man, crushes on her roommate Marcie and falls into the bed of the title character, an aggressive and brash butch lesbian who has slept with half of the village.
