AUDITION NOTICE – Kenan Center’s Taylor Theatre

The Kenan Center in Lockport, NY seeks actors for two upcoming productions: A Kenan Christmas Cabaret and Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!”.

A Kenan Christmas Cabaret is a festive night of cheer. The piece will largely be devised with the assembled talent on the production. Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” brings Mo Willems’ best-selling children’s books to life onstage to explore themes like friendship, sharing, play, and dealing with loss.

For A Kenan Christmas Cabaret, we are seeking vocalists of any gender and any voice type.  For Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!”, we are seeking a trio of back-up singing squirrels.  The vocalists will play female characters with ranges that can reach as low as E3 and as high as Ab5.

The rehearsal period for the Christmas Cabaret will start December 1, 2024 with performance dates December 13-22 (performance schedule Thursday – Saturday @ 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:30pm).

For Elephant & Piggie, the rehearsal period will begin February 24, 2025 with performance dates March 22 – 30 (performance schedule Saturdays 2:00pm & 4:30pm, Sundays @ 2:00pm and 2 on-school time performances March 27 and 28 at 10:00am).

Actor salaries for professionals will range from $250-$300/week; stipends are available for high school actors.

DETAILS

Auditions will be held Monday, October 7 @ 6pm at the Taylor Theatre on the Kenan Campus in Lockport.  Walk ins are welcome, but actors are highly encouraged to sign up for a time slot by sending an email to Kevin Leary at kevin@kenancenter.org.

Interested actors should prepare 16 bars of two contrasting songs; preferably a ballad and up-tempo with one being contemporary and the other from the Great American Songbook.  An accompanist will be provided.  Actors must provide sheet music; a capella auditions will not be considered.
